Richmond Funtimes

Last weekend we went to Richmond to see our friends Mike & Janine.
Saturday night we went to Dave and Busters. It was lots of fun! I've seen commercials for the place, but none of us have ever been. It's like a Showbiz for grown-ups (though there were still tons of kids around playing). Better food though, and beer! Janine and I earned about 50 tickets, but inflation has apparently also hit the ticket market, and we wouldn't have been able to get anything more than a small yo-yo or some candy, so we gave them to a little kid.

Sunday we lazed around (except for our wonderful hosts who made us breakfast!), and then went to Carytown.
There were tons of chalk drawings all over the sidewalks, including Pedobear!

What are you doing on the ground Pedobear??

There's also a VERY nice yarn shop, and I was very good and just got needles for my huge blanket of doom (thank you Kyle for the suggestion of using multiple sets of circulars as DPNs).

Then we went to a super-yummy pizza place downtown and then to the National to see Mastodon.

The National is a historic building, they used to be a traditional theater (for operas and plays and stuff).

Ceiling.

Pictures are kind of hard to see what's going on, they have a huge LED display behind them which they show a video on.

It was easily the 2nd loudest show I've been to, and my ears were still ringing Tuesday morning.

Monday I got up early and went in to work! My boss had asked if I could go to the Richmond office to do some training, and it just worked out well timing-wise so that I didn't have to make two trips :)

Maude was my Tripsie-substitute.

I love her tail!

Today we're planning on going to the Celtic Festival at Sedalia. Hopefully the weather will hold out.

Not much new knitting yet, I do have some plans for a shawl but I want to finish Hubs' socks first.

Where has Jadie Been?

Stayed home sick, but felt well enough to knit a few days.

The shawl grows (to clarify, this is not a prayer shawl, its a selfish for me shawl) :)

Turned out I had the plague
Kitties didn't realize I was home and showed signs of affection (no hissing or chasing)

Got better (yarn and loopy ewe shipment helped)

Also opening the window to the beautiful outdoors helped, but Tripsie wanted to see out too badly.

Went to see METAL!!!

(that's my metal face)
(pardon the video its from Idiotboy's phone)

Celtic Festival!

For any fellow central Virginians out there, there's a Celtic Culture Festival this Saturday at Sedalia.
Should be fun!! As you can see in the link, there will be several bands, beer, and a Knobby Knees contest.

Return, some musings

Wee I'm back.
Friday, Sam and I loaded up the car and headed for Richmond to visit Lewis and his lady and to see the Clutch show.
We checked into the Days Inn, which had a beautiful view. Actual picture of our view to follow, but you get the picture. People in Richmond should recognize this building. We were right across the street from it.

The show was very good. I'll admit, Clutch is more Sam's thing than mine, but they're one hell of a group of entertaining guys. And the Cellist for Murder by Death was entertaining too (translation: very pretty and gyrating). And the National is a gorgeous building, with lots of history. Here's a picture I stole from the National's Myspace page.

Saturday, we got up and went to Shoney's for breakfast. I really miss having one of those around here :(
Then we went for a drive.

You can see a nice wrap up of our tour of Hollywood Cemetery on The Lewis Show.
Here's me and Sam on the cannon.

When we got home, I was so wired from being in the car that I changed both catboxes, and then cleaned out my car. Sadly, I discovered I have a bit of a mold problem, so I'll be looking into how to fix that.
I'll post about my visit to the folks separately. Right now I'm working on a cat bed for Tripsie.

Hair dye, Concerts, and Yaarn!

Well, ya get what you pay for :(
Earlier this week, a woman at work was offering up free hair dye. Name brand, usually expensive stuff. Her explanation was that the fullfillment center where her husband worked wasn't going to carry it anymore.
Well, I started working up a plan. Phase 1 last night was to put in some honey blond highlights.
Phase 2, was to then do some pure blond highlights, and then Phase 3 was to dye them a pretty purplish/pink.
Sadly, neither batch of bleach did JACK!
I still went ahead and put the purple/pink on, but its barely visible. Next time I'll just buy the harsh stuff.

Tomorrow, Sam and I are heading to Richmond to see Clutch. I'm really excited. While I don't ever feel like I'm dragging Sam to see bands, I know he's REALLY looking forward to see Clutch. Lewis and his lady will be joining us!

Then Sunday I'm heading to visit my parents for Easter. There will be lots of knitting, and movie watching, and peace and quiet.
I hope anyone who's traveling this weekend has a safe trip! See y'all next week.

I wanna Rock!

Ignore the wet/unbrushed hair please.
YAY! Tonight is the Saliva & Drowning Pool show. Even better, I has a designated driver. Thank you Sherri!
I'm loading up on water (ick) to prepare for sweating and drinking.

Also exciting news, today a new 4q podcast was up! And even more exciting, they feature Airbourne! A band I've been meaning to check up because they're coming to Cattle Annie's soon too!
Its so exciting to finally see a rock scene here in the Burg. Big thanks to everyone involved, kudos include myself and the Wrecking Crew for dutifully posting fliers up whenever St Diablo came to town. Shame its taken this long.

Concert time!

Apologies to my non-local readers, this is an announcement for my local folks.
Attention my Lynchburg Area Readers. This Saturday, at Cattle Annies Saliva and Drowning Pool will be hitting the stage! $18 a ticket. Please call ahead or drop by, or you might be waiting in line ;)
Cmon guys its the first Saturday rock show in I don't know HOW long. Lets show the management and booking companies that we want more!

Also, Chevelle is coming in March, and there's whisperings of a lot more on the way.
I hope to see you there!!! \m/

YAY I can has concert times!

Last night, Sam and I went to see Alter Bridge

and Another Animal

(basically, Godsmack with the lead singer from Ugly Kid Joe). I was actually pretty impressed with Another Animal. Great energy, fun times. Plus I had a huge crush on Whit Crane back in my middle school days).
I was really looking forward to seeing Alter Bridge. As much as I got absolutely sick of Creed thanks to the constant radio play around here, I love Alter Bridge's sound, and Myle's Kennedy's voice is just amazing.
It was a very good show, good crowd energy, and its always fun to meet up with old friends at a show :)
I keep hoping Cattle Annie's will get some more good bands. We shall see. Sounded like the guys were interested in coming back so *crosses fingers*

And, I haven't bugged you with my knitting in a while so here's what's on my needles. I knew this wouldn't photograph well :(

Its actually purple... with a purplish glittery yarn running through it. And though you can't tell in the photo, its knit on the bias. Very nice.
