YAY I can has concert times!

Last night, Sam and I went to see Alter Bridge

and Another Animal

(basically, Godsmack with the lead singer from Ugly Kid Joe). I was actually pretty impressed with Another Animal. Great energy, fun times. Plus I had a huge crush on Whit Crane back in my middle school days).
I was really looking forward to seeing Alter Bridge. As much as I got absolutely sick of Creed thanks to the constant radio play around here, I love Alter Bridge's sound, and Myle's Kennedy's voice is just amazing.
It was a very good show, good crowd energy, and its always fun to meet up with old friends at a show :)
I keep hoping Cattle Annie's will get some more good bands. We shall see. Sounded like the guys were interested in coming back so *crosses fingers*

And, I haven't bugged you with my knitting in a while so here's what's on my needles. I knew this wouldn't photograph well :(

Its actually purple... with a purplish glittery yarn running through it. And though you can't tell in the photo, its knit on the bias. Very nice.

Multi-update!

Randomness WEEEEEEE
First off, make sure you check out my pal Lewis' Tumbler page. He's got an awesome pic of Heath Ledger as the Joker up :)
Secondly, went to check out Kyle Knits, a man after my own heart (Knitting, cats? WEE!) who was sweet enough to leave a comment about poor sweet Charlie. (By the way, I'm told Charlie had a very nice burial service, and is resting in the apple orchard that grows by my folks' driveway, and this spring some pretty flowers will bloom there).
Taking Paying it forward to the extreme, I'm "borrowing" something Kyle "borrowed" from yet another blogger.

Basically, the first 3 people to leave a comment will get a pretty knitted suprise! Now... I will say, because of my Holiday Deadlines, I am not 100% sure I will have the items ready before the new year, but I will do my best. So, comment away, and make sure you leave a way to contact you.

Lastly - a Knitting Podcast review! I've been catching up on Lime & Violet's podcast after reading about it on Ravelry. SO FUNNY! Even if you're not a knitter you should at least check it out. They are so silly. Any podcast which has a regular segment called Yarn Pron is ok by me!

Additionally, the world at large has lost 3 very important/influential people.
Mikey discussed the loss of Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of Quiet Riot. I'm sure next time he's online, he will update that the Redskins' Sean Taylor, has also now passed away. Also, not getting as much press, the guitarist of Hawthorne Heights (not a fan, but all music is important) passed away on their tour bus, at the 930 club in Northern Virginia. Rest in peace everyone.

Something Fun

So someone in one of my livejoural groups posted this....

Thanksgiving, loss, and new toys

Well, as I posted, I went to my parents house for Thanksgiving. I drove down on Thursday, successful in my plan to avoid too much traffic. Did a whole lot of knitting :) I finished a washcloth I'd been working on. Got a lot of work done on 2 other scarves. So now if I'm thinking right I just have to finish this scarf, then its 2 more, plus I think 6 washcloths and I'll be done!
I came back home last night, again successful in avoiding most of the traffic. Sadly, this morning I awoke to some bad news.... Mom called and tearfully told me that her baby Charlie had been hit by a car :(

Now, for those of you who aren't pet people, please skip forward to my next paragraph. Its ok, I'll wait *hums* Ok, pet people, as you know the loss of a pet is very emotional especially when its not expected - for example an older pet who is put to sleep. Additionally, I think that Charlie had replaced for my mom, the fact that she doesn't have any grandchildren. She brushed his teeth and had a portrait of him for pete's sake :) Charlie, wherever you are, know that you are very much missed. *wipes away tear*

ok....
So... my laptop was about to bust at the screws from the amount of music and podcasts I've stuffed it with, so Sam perused the sales ads, and we found a 250 gig external harddrive that would power through USB. Its about the size of an ipod! So, he's spent most of today moving all the music over (yay, I get to re-rate all my favorites AGAIN) and updated all my drivers and YAY I has hard drive space and can play Command and Conquer 3... only... I don't think I like it.
Oh well... probably won't have a podcast review for a while as I won't synch up until I get my favorite songs rated 5 again.
I hope everyone had a safe Thanksgiving. *hugs*

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm heading to my parents' house for the Holiday, so I'm not sure if there will be any postings until next week.
Have a safe and happy Holiday for my American readers.

For the uber nerds :)

Stole this from the LANgaming forums:

National Geographic Videos

So, last night after realizing I was pretty much out of podcasts to review other than knitting ones, I realized I'd better get hopping on finding more! So to Digg I returned. There I found National Geographic Videos! I always used to like looking at the magazines when I was a kid, being a bit of an archeology/history/tornado/animal nerd. So I downloaded a few videos. It looks like there's about an average of two a week. They're also very short which is good if you're low on space like I am :)
I watched one very interesting episode about people living in a cemetery in Manila. My favorite though, has to be the one on Fainting Goats. I've put a similar video below. I was laughing so hard I had to show my 2 co-workers who were still there because they heard me.

Oh, a quick little note. If you view my blog from a feed, please occasionally come visit the page. I randomly update the 2 pictures on the sidebar, or add/remove links etc. So to get the full Jadielady experience, come on over and sit a spell :)

A few updates

First, in the podcast realm. Tomorrow is Gary Vaynerchuck's birthday. So make sure you go by and wish him well.

*thinks I'd swear there was something else I was going to say about podcasts... but now I can't remember what. *ponder*
I hate getting old.... Crap what did I listen to today?
Oh well, I'll remember in like a week or something.
I finished my scarf, now I'm working on Carrie's. Lucky for me she doesn't have a computer so there's no way she'll see this :)
YAY For patterns on Ravelry!

Oh yeah. I realize not all my readers are knitaholics like I am. So I'm going to try to only review Knitting related podcasts every 2 weeks. So the alternating weeks I will review any other kind of podcast :)
So if you have one that you like, please leave a comment, or chat me up at MaraJade97 on AIM, glswoman on Yahoo or at jadielady at gmail.com (@ symbol for the at and no spaces).

*edit* YAY I REMEMBERED! I knew I would.
I ordered some very lovely Christmas presents off of an Etsy shop. I can't link the store because its for 2 of my blog readers and they'll recognize pretty quickly what they're getting. But please support Crafters!
I'll be linking the specific shop and the BEAUTIFUL items after Christmas presents are gifted :)

Craft Rock Listen

Vickie Howell's podcast Craft Rock Listen launched 2 weeks ago. I know I know, I'm super late to the party. I actually listened to the first podcast, but well... it wasn't about knitting so I kinda got easily distracted. However! The 2nd episode featured guest Adrienne Armstrong (super pretty wife of Billie Joe). It was kinda cool coinkydink 'cause they discussed teaching small children how to knit which they also talked about on the episode of Stash N Burn.
They also talked about being ecologically friendly, and "sustainable living." Neither of which are nearly as popular topics in little ole Lynchburg as they are in California etc, but I thought it was pretty interesting. I honestly never knew how silk was made!!! EEWW So now I will be more mindful of what's going into making my yarn!

Also, along the topic of going green, Sam brought home those nifty low-energy lightbulbs. They're not as bright, but they also aren't very hot, and they supposedly last 8 years!
*goes back to playing on Ravelry* weehee

WOOHOOOO

I got my Ravelry invite!!! WOOHOOOO!!!!!!!
Also exciting, my divorce is FINAL! WOOOHOOOOOO. I just don't have the paperwork yet.

Domiwha!

So I was chatting with a friend tonight, and went to do a google search to show him that even when knitters are at book signings they KNIT! and I saw a picture of a woman in a black leather corset holding knitting needles. Color me interested.
Clicked the link and discovered this nifty nook on the net. Domiknitrix has quite a few very neat patterns, including free charts to put a Skull into your project, and other punk patterns.
Very nifty!

Woohooo! I'm done on my scarf for a co-worker in Richmond, and now back to the Christmas presents. Or maybe I should finish mine first.....

Tomorrow I'm picking up a free sewing machine from a friend at work, and I"m very excited :) I've got some big plans for around the new year so STAY TUNED!

Please help us get Mudvayne to the area!!!!

CONTEST! ATTN KNITTERS

I recently discovered "Shut up I'm Counting's"
blog. She's having a contest, so head on over and enter :)

Stash and Burn

Stash and Burn is a very fun knitting podcast hosted by Jenny and Nicole. They talk about knitting from a different point of view. Stash management!
Their episodes are always funny, especially their Halloween episode with two knitting horror stories (the danger of super sharp double ended needles, and OMG what did her mother in law do with that scarf?!). Also, they're huge Battlestar fans and love Buffy!
I've really enjoyed listening to them and getting caught up on their episodes. I've actually had to limit myself to listening to one episode per day because otherwise I will get caught up and be sad to only get one episode per week.
I've been inspired to get better organized with my own stash. I purchased an organizer, and was dismayed to find that not all of my yarn fit in it!

To the right I have the basket Sam gave me for Christmas last year, which is holding all the yarn for current projects, or projects that are for Christmas presents. To the left is my brand new backpack I purchased for myself to carry 2 more portable projects around.

And here is a picture of my current projects. Barely visible is a scarf for a friend of mine at work. Its very pretty lime green, baby blue and pink fun fur with a baby blue fuzzy yarn. Also, I've made some more progress on my scarf and a VT Scarf for another co-worker. On the knifty knitter is a creation I'm making up as I go for my friend's daughter.
The backpack makes another appearance because the yarn for my scarf is still in it ;)

*edit* YAY Finished object! This I think will look very cute over a black dress, or with a tanktop and jeans (and of course on someone a little bit smaller than I am) Luckily, the recipient is 13.
